The previous village shop had closed 10 years before but villagers felt that they needed somewhere for those who couldn’t get to neighbouring towns to do their shopping. The decision to open a Community Shop was taken at a village meeting and its first premises were in a caravan.

Nowadays the shop and Post Office are housed in an extension of the village hall. It acts as a meeting place for those who don’t get out a lot and is an important part of community life in the village.

This exhibition is part of a wider sustainability project delivered through the Rural Museums East Partnership. It is funded by Renaissance East of England.
